Hellmann: Reverse Engineering of the Host and Redesign

Hellmann: Reverse Engineering of the Host and Redesign
Business Impact:

Accurate capture and reverse engineering of system knowledge and architecture ensures operational continuity of the legacy system, enables low-risk migration planning, parallelizes the process, minimizes costs and ensures future profitability.

What we were asked about:

Boost stalled migration: A lack of transparency and lost knowledge of an outdated, host-based logistics system were stalling the migration project. A clear insight into the existing system should help to restructure the migration planning on a solid basis.

What we delivered:

Transparency: Our team successfully reverse-engineered the host architecture and the specialist structures anchored in the code using specially developed tools. We made this information available in a consolidated form via a central single source of truth database.

This strategic step increased the system's development capability in the migration phase through knowledge distribution and formed a robust foundation for the immediate development and implementation of a migration plan with the customer.

Success factors:

  • Established a single source of truth

  • System knowledge and architecture reverse-engineered and shared across the team

  • Migration plan redefined based on a robust data foundation

  • null

Our Strengths: Expertise, Curiosity, and Drive

“Critical to the successful start of our migration was the QAware team’s ability to quickly immerse themselves in our specific technical and business requirements. Thanks to their expertise, curiosity, and motivation—as well as a structured, tool-supported approach to building a single source of truth—we were able to unravel the complexity of our legacy host system, visualize structures, and translate them into a sound migration strategy. On this basis, we scaled knowledge and parallelized our migration.”
