Applications in the cloud can become computationally intensive and thus expensive. Optimizing resources saves costs, avoids bottlenecks, and protects the environment.

  • Applications in the cloud can quickly become expensive as data transfer and storage needs grow. Many companies do not utilize the potential for savings.
  • Switching to a different pricing model can save costs in the short term but may prove to be a dead end in the long run.
  • Effective cost-saving measures include right-sizing, changing the VM type, using alternative storage classes, negotiating with cloud providers, and automation to shut down systems when not in use.
  • Cost optimization in the cloud is a continuous process. Companies should regularly review and adjust their cost structures.

From the early years of the cloud up until recently, one could rely on decreasing prices for PaaS (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) offerings. The fact that Microsoft raised the prices for the Azure Cloud by around eleven percent on April 1, 2023, was a shock for many customers who had benefited from falling prices in previous years.
