Yes, there is! Together with Protobuf serialization and HTTP/2, gRPC is on its way to become the best building block for efficient and secure APIs on the web.

But there is also room for improvement in the interaction with the database: With classic web services, it is the provider who decides what data goes over the line at the end – no longer with GraphQL! Here, the caller can determine which data he wants to receive from the database.
